11 Aug Island Youth Make the Grade with Help from FISH of SANCAP
Children are heading back to school, which means reading, writing, arithmetic and homework!
F.I.S.H. of SANCAP, again this year, will provide financial assistance for eligible students wishing to participate in the Youth After School Program offered by The Sanibel School. The program – commonly known as ‘the homework club’ – provides quality time for students to complete assignments, work on friendships and build self-esteem.
“We are very grateful to be able to provide support for this valuable program,” says F.I.S.H. President and CEO Maggi Feiner. “Our Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club provided partial funding and other generous donors came together to make it all happen.
“Last year, several students enrolled in the after school program made the Honor Roll. We could not be more proud,” Feiner says with a smile.
The Sanibel School After School Program runs 4 days per week and operates with the normal school calendar. It provides a safe, secure setting where your child can do school work, read a book or have computer time — all under the supervision of school staff. It’s designed for boys and girls in kindergarten to 8th grade, who require academic, social or emotional support.
Students approved for the free/reduced lunch program through Lee County Schools are automatically eligible for financial assistance from F.I.S.H. Students not enrolled in the lunch program must qualify by contacting Case Manager Nitza Lopez, S.W., or Program Director Kathy Monroe, M.S.G. by calling 239-472-4775.
