01 Jun Make Your Way to the Captiva Library in June
Yes, Captiva Island has a library! It’s a fun (newly remodeled) place to cool off in June with a variety of adult and children programs or to read your favorite magazine and newspaper…check out upcoming activities:
Adult Summer Reading Program: “Libraries Rock!” Book Bingo
Adults may participate in this Summer Reading Program by completing a “Libraries Rock!” Book Bingo sheet, available at the Reference desk. The program is limited to readers 18 and older. Each book may be used in only one square. Return completed sheet to the Reference desk for prizes and/or drawing entries. Last day to turn in Bingo sheet for prizes is August 11, 2018. One Bingo sheet per person. Prizes include books for Bingo (limit 3 per person) and fully completed cards qualify for entry into branch prize drawings and a grand prize drawing. Check your local library for participation and Bingo sheets.
Coloring For Grown-Ups (All Library hours)
Coloring books are no longer just for kids. In fact, adult coloring books are all the rage right now. Researchers and art therapists alike have touted the calming benefits for over a decade, with researchers at Johns Hopkins University to the editors of Yoga Journal suggesting coloring as an alternative to meditation. Like meditation, coloring allows the brain to switch off other thoughts and focus. Coloring has therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety, create focus, or bring about more mindfulness. Please join in this fun, relaxing activity. Participants may bring their own materials or use those provided.
Checkers (All library hours)
Play classic checkers “the game of games” or try other versions such as Fox and Geese, Give Away, Shifting Pyramids, Corner Checkers, or Goban. Instructions included. Or reverse the field and play Tic Tac Toe or Super Tic Tac Toe.
