February is Healthy Heart Month!
The Sanibel Recreation Center is celebrating Healthy Heart Month with a variety of activities to keep your heart happy and to promote a healthy lifestyle. We will be offering themed group exercise classes, such as WEAR RED Zumba, Heartful Flow Yoga, and Pedaling for a Healthier Heart, as well as a variety of health screenings and educational sessions. Don’t miss out on these unique opportunities! Membership and Operating Hours
Starting Wednesday, February 1st membership will be required for use of the facility. Our new hours starting February 1st will be.
Monday – Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Paint Your Heart Out
with Local Artist
Saturday, February 18th 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Connect with your fellow islanders and paint your heart out with local artist Rachel Pierce! Paint a custom Sanibel Island logo on a wood shaped heart. All supplies, refreshments and childcare (for ages 4 to 12 yrs.) included with registration.

Blood Drive – Your Donation Serves Our Community
Thursday, February 2nd 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.,
The Sanibel Recreation Center is hosting the Lee Memorial’s Bloodmobile at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road.
To donate blood you must:
  • Weigh at least 115 lbs.
  • Be at least 17 years old, 16 years old with parental consent
  • Be in general good health – no colds, flu, sore throat, etc.
  • Bring Photo ID, with DOB, if new donor
Almost 40,000 Americans need blood transfusions each and every day. One in three people will need blood in their lifetime. The Lee Memorial Health System needs blood to meet local area needs. For more information about donating blood click here.

Dr. Greg Walsh will be addressing the distress that occurs on the joints of the body and how to manage injury when it occurs. He will be delving into some of the common everyday pitfalls that lead to injury, the exercises and habits we can do to avoid these problems and the therapies he has used in his practice that have proven to be successful.
Wellness Services with Apex

The Apex Van will be offering a variety of services at the Sanibel Recreation Center in conjunction with Healthy Heart Month!

FREE CPR Compression Only Class
Tuesday, February 14th 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Class will be held on Tuesday, February 14th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center. The purpose of this class is to teach untrained bystanders how to preform hands-only CPR.
Having more citizen bystanders trained in this simple skill can help save lives.
Harris Dermatology Free Skin Cancer Screening
Friday, February 24th 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Harris Dermatology is offering a FREE skin cancer screening at the Sanibel Recreation Center on Friday, February 24th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Screenings are quick and easy and the exam is non-invasive. The screening involves a visual inspection of exposed areas of the body after a brief medical history is completed. No appointment or registration necessary – walk-ins are welcome.
