As Sanibel continues to recover from Hurricane Ian, the Sanibel Police Department is committed to keeping the community safe and secure. To support that effort, a police blotter with real time information about law enforcement response to criminal activity is provided to the community at large.
Arrests Report
November 1, 2022: Grand Theft (Roofing Supplies.) Suspect was booked into the Lee County Jail. View the booking report: https://www.sheriffleefl.org/booking/?id=959250
November 3, 2022: Multiple Moving Violations (Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Operation of a Motorcycle without Endorsement, Speed Citations) Suspect was booked into the Lee County Jail. View the booking report: https://www.sheriffleefl.org/booking/?id=959344
November 6, 2022: Male suspect, previously arrested on November 1, 2022 with revocation of his Sanibel Residential Hurricane Pass, was in front of another residential property harassing the female homeowner. Upon arrival, Sanibel Police discovered the suspect was improperly using a neighbor’s Sanibel Residential Hurricane Pass to access the Island. Further investigation revealed the vehicle he was operating was unregistered. The suspect was arrested and charged with failure to register a motor vehicle and trespassed. View the booking report:
  • Several additional arrest warrant requests are currently in progress as a result of post-hurricane investigations.
Other Enforcement Actions
November 10, 2022, vicinity of Casa Ybel Road, officers observed an adult male loading mixed scrap metal from the roadway onto a trailer. The male did not have a hurricane pass, and he was escorted off Island without incident.
In cooperation with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR), the Sanibel Police Department is enforcing the prohibition on unlicensed activity. To date, approximately 45 job sites have been checked, resulting in two Notices of Non Compliance and three referrals to Sanibel Code Enforcement.

Important Reminders
Multiple search warrants have been issued and executed as part of post-hurricane investigations, resulting in the discovery of items that may be missing property. Residents, property owners, and business owners are encouraged to review photos published by Sanibel Police here.
Residents who have reported missing jewelry are encouraged to submit detailed information and descriptions to Sanibel Police investigators.
